This course  is an advanced version of fish parasitology for the Fish Disease course  and also,  an elective course for the School of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Students are first taught the common parasites infecting fish. It starts with fish protozoan ectoparasites: ciliates and flagellates which are found on gills and skin of fish host.

Synopsis
This course is an advanced version of fish parasitology for the Fish Disease course and also, an elective course for the School of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Students are first taught the common parasites infecting fish.  It starts with fish protozoan ectoparasites: ciliates and flagellates which are found on gills and skin of fish host.
Learning Outcome
This course is an advanced version of fish parasitology for the Fish Disease course and also, an elective course for the School of Fisheries and Aquaculture. Students will learn about gill metazoan parasites that is gill and skin monogenea.  Metazoan endoparasites that will be introduced next are:

  1. Cestodes;
  2. Nematodes;
  3. Digenea;
  4. Acanthocephala.

Students will gain the knowledge on ecology of freshwater and marine parasites as well as understand the interaction of fish host and parasite.

1. Introduction to Fish Parasitology;
2. Protozoan parasites;
3. Metazoan parasites;
       Part 1   :   Myxoporean parasites
       Part 2  :   Trematodes
       Part 3  :   Nematoda Acanthocephala
       Part 4  :  Crustacean Parasites
4. Parasite fauna & host migration & Fish Parasites as biological indicators;
5. Parasitism and pollution : Fish Parasites as metal pollution indicator;
6. Ecology of marine parasites;
7. Parasites of economic importance & human health.
